[opensuse-factory] text select in KDE4 - often omits the first or last character - can this be adjusted?

Listmates,
One strange annoyance with KDE4 is text selection. For the myriads of
select the middle-mouse pastes that are done routinely, many times KDE4 text
select misses/omits the first or last character of the text block that was
copied. This occurs even when the first/last character is within the
highlighted text block for copying. Has something changed in the text selection
code/highlighting that could account for this? If so, what to check or set to
have this behave like it did in kde3. This behavior occurs not only in kapp
(kmail, etc.) but also when copying from Firefox, etc.
Has anyone else noticed this in kde4?
