Fish in kde4 is still badly hosed. I opened a bug with kde:

        Neither Kate or Kwrite will connect across the LAN, but ... In 
konqueror, I 
can get fish across the LAN, but any fish across the internet dies after 
connection with the following error:

        I have konqueror(kde3) open right next to it and it connects fine. Who 
knows 
what the problem is, but this is one that needs to be at the top of the list.
