I'm using GroupWise Client, version 8.0.0HP2 on my openSUSE Factory
installation. Since the latest updates that hit factory (going to
MileStone 2), the client became very sluggish and is constantly
consuming 100% of one CPU core (sometimes it even happens to use
part of the 2nd core).

It doesn't feel more sluggish than usual, and my notebook only has a
single core, but...

Does anybody else see similiar issues (if at all somebody is using the
groupwise client)?

...I also get similar behavior in terms of CPU load.

Interestingly, in term of wakeups, according to powertop Firefox is the
main culprit:

Top causes for wakeups:

84.2% ( inf) firefox : hrtimer_start_range_ns (hrtimer_wakeup)
8.6% ( inf) <interrupt> : PS/2 keyboard/mouse/touchpad
3.9% ( inf) <kernel core> : hrtimer_start_range_ns (tick_sched_timer)
1.5% ( inf) groupwise-bin : hrtimer_start_range_ns (hrtimer_wakeup)

From my observation, the problem appeared togetherwith glibc 2.10, but
then, that very zypper dup installed almost 1GB of packages. so it could
have been whatever.

Yes, this is a bit of a problem trying to nail things down. Would you
mind filing a bug report?
