Creating a proper package manually is a task for profesionals, it is not
simple. For us plain users the only option is checkinstall.

I don't use it to create packages for distribution, but simply to keep
YaST happy, and make it easy to uninstall the package.

Same here, so as not to run into serious problems I have seen other
suffer after a "make install".
I built checkinstall from sources many moons ago and it was more
problematical than the one that comes with the distro.
