What other packages? OpenOffice_org is split into several packages that 
require all packages in a specific version to work well together. If one of 
those fails, you get this problem. That it's only a problem on x86_64 and not
on i586, shows that's not a general problem with rules.

You can keep the old packages on your factory installation just fine. Just 
tell yast/zypper to take that solution.
