Yes, that is to be expected. If you have a spinning disk, the biggest
problem is the IO not being fast enough - the disk head seeks are
dominating erverything else. Something can be gained from preloading
data (ie start to load it into the cache before the application asks
for it, so that we eliminate the seek wait) but results vary a lot
here.

Have you looked at http://en.opensuse.org/Boottime/Boot_time already?
