Works a charm here on three machines running different openSUSE releases - 11.0 through Factory
I have to report the same as Greg and Andy. Works great for me on openSUSE 11.1 (and SLED). Though, primarily only with Silverlight 1.0 apps at the moment, but 2.0 is coming soon and pretty confident the Mono team will nail it.
I've tried using monodevelop (previous mono version and now 2.2) to build .NET sources, all a big failure and seemingly only good for code written specially for mono.
I haven't used monodevelop personally but colleagues have without issue. I've not heard of many issues, but IIRC you have to be careful of what .Net version you're writing for as there is a compatability issue.
Am I flogging a dead horse or am I missing a clue or two?
A very good chance you're missing something or other. A very useful resource is #mono on irc.gimp.net they are very active and pretty friendly.

Andy
Also as Andy mentions here we have good success. I work in the ISV Team here at Novell with partners porting applications to SUSE Linux Enterprise and we are having great success in using it to move applications over to Linux (with some caveats). As recommended, you should discuss any issues you are having on the Mono Forums ( http://www.go-mono.com/forums/ ).
