Hi, some thoughts about preload:
bug apart (#429732) i think we need something better/smarter; now, too 
many things are hardcoded.
For example default kde them (Aya). If an user changes plasma theme this 
become completely useless/harmful.

Again, from /etc/preload.d/kde:
stat /usr/share/kde4/apps/ksplash/Themes/ksplashx-
suse/1280x800/background.png
stat /usr/share/kde4/apps/ksplash/Themes/ksplashx-
suse/1280x800/stripe.png

There's not 1280x800 directory here, only 1600x1200.
