Agreed. For lower end systems on x86, I do recommend and use Damn
Small Linux. However, there is no PPC distro like that and for the
old world macs(pre G3 mostly), you really only have Debian and
openSUSE. Some of the others will install and work, but not well.

However, wasting resources is still a big problem. If you don't have
USB or firewire or this hardware or that hardware, then while having
the support there is a good idea, it should be installed and loaded if
you don't have it. Try removing USB support and you'll have problems.
I know. I tried it on one of my old macs that didn't have USB and I
wasn't using it.

It's always a cycle. Add features this version and bloat the system
and then go an optimize it for the next. Maybe openSUSE will
stabilize more once KDE3 and qt3 are removed and we are given ways to
make KDE4 more useful and less glitzy like KDE3(I for one don't need
nor want widgets or any of that other crap. I prefer to have icons
and files on MY desktop). Time will tell.
