Basil,

I bet it is happening, but your just not catching it. It took me three
tries
with ksnapshot to catch the behavior, but a picture is worth 1000 words.

OK, I see what you are talking about but, as I already stated, I don't
have this occurring.

I did notice, however, that the whole task/quicklaunch bar is very
squashed up. Did you "fiddle" with its settings and push its size down
too far? (Fiddling also with the panel alignment may be contributing to
this behaviour.)

Ciao.

I set it to a size of 40

I am starting to wonder if we are talking about the same thing. I don't
remember having the option of setting anything to "40".

like the default for kde3 and decreased the icon size
to small.

The only place where I know that one can alter the icon size is in
Desktop Configuration>Icons>Advanced where one alters the size of the
icons on the Desktop (just like in KDE3). The icons on the taskbar are
adjusted differently as far as I am concerned. (See also next point.)

I had to reset it to something. I accidentally grabbed the wrong
place while the taskbar setting were open and it covered nearly half the
screen ;-)

If you right-click on an empty spot on the taskbar a menu shows up;
select Panel Settings and another 'taskbar' appears; in the middle of
this bar is a box named 'Height'. If you left-click and hold on this box
you can then move the whole bar up or down -- and as you do so you will
find that it either squashes or makes bigger (in height) the taskbar. In
my earlier msg I stated that your taskbar looked too squashed; perhaps
you should try and 'unsquash' it a bit to see if that problem of yours
disappears.

Also, when the second bar appears at the extreme right hand there is an
item called More Settings. Here you can set the taskbar to autohide
(just like in KDE3).

One other thing. By default there are 4 Desktop icons in the taskbar and
they are in two rows - which I find annoying. If you right-click inside
any one of the desktop icons and select Pager Settings you get the
choice to select how many Rows are to be used for the icons. I always
select 1x Row which makes the taskbar lower in height.

That almost rivaled the time I clicked "delete this panel" instead of
"delete
this icon"... They really ought to move those two farther apart.

Nah, that would make it less fun and it would produce less
complaints/bug reports which would make the developers feel unwanted.

Ciao.
