Thanks. I think I was supposed to download:
openSUSE-11.1-Beta5-DVD-x86_64.iso.md5
and open it with kwrite... Opps! I was looking for a README md5sum file. emoenke@ftp5:2 23:02:25 /ftp/pub/opensuse/distribution/11.1-Beta5/iso > cat openSUSE-11.1-Beta5-DVD-x86_64.iso.md5 793e487eb299df6bede87de3d722cc6f openSUSE-11.1-Beta5-DVD-x86_64.iso emoenke@ftp5:2 23:02:42 /ftp/pub/opensuse/distribution/11.1-Beta5/iso >
So what do you mean?
I downloaded from:
http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.1-Beta5/iso/
openSUSE-11.1-Beta5-DVD-x86_64.iso.md5
and opened it with kwrite.
... and then, what happened?
KWrite opens the file which contains this:
793e487eb299df6bede87de3d722cc6f openSUSE-11.1-Beta5-DVD-x86_64.iso
Full disclosure: I am no Linux expert. Just a regular user [mostly openSUSE and Mandriva] since days of Fedora Core 4. But I believe a bootable iso file has to end in .iso.
Yes.
Note that this file ends in .md5.
That seems to be what you had requested to download.
Eberhard I am only speculating that this is where we find md5 sums now.
Yes, that file contains the MD5 sum of the real .iso.
It used to be [at least as I remember it] that if on the 'Development Version' web page I clicked on 'md5sum' it took you to a page with the md5sum's for the various arch's. Now it takes me to the Beta 5 iso page:
http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.1-Beta5/iso/
I'm not complaining. Just trying to get my ducks in a row for:
I will not follow this now. Your MD5 sum is correct, and the servers have a file which will (and did) tell you so.
