Hello,

since beta3, I have trouble to use wireless networks with
NetworkManager. Trying to configure via Yast Network Settings,
there is a Warning:

This configuration is not compatible with NetworkManager.
Use nm-settings applet or switch to Traditional Method with ifup.

Just for explanation - NM and ifup now use a completely separated
configuration and YaST is able to handle only the ifup one. So, if you
decide to use NM, YaST network settings cannot be used at all.

OK, thanks for clearing this up.
Is NM still the recommended way of configuring a wireless network ?

It depends on your use case. I assume you use laptop, where NM is the
recommended way.

Because I have no way of making a wireless connection under KDE at the
moment (the network applet under KDE4 doesn't work for me).

I suggest to use knetworkmanager (KDE3 version) for now, work on KDE4
applet is still under heavy bug fixing AFAIK.

until there is a kde4 version, can't the gnome nm-applet be used? I use 3G
cards and NM is superior in this..

Tambet said not to run nm-applet directly and some policy or something is
preventing me from doing this.
