After reading the thread on auto hibernation I selected suspend from the
kde3 log out menu. It had never worked in the past but this time
unfortunatly it did. My machine went through the shutdown process and
after pressing the power button proceeded to restart, finished the part
where it loads the saved suspend data and locked up just before
the mouse would have been recognized. The nightmare part came when
repeated attempts from rescue disk to kexec back to my system also
failed. Eventually I booted with acpi=off and noresume successfuly my
failsafe section on the boot menu is identical to my normal section for
some reason as well.
Is this a known bug, if it is the suspend section needs to be removed
from kde3 shutdown menu.
Regards
