Please check the form factor of HAL on these machines. And no, samba (sharing
files with windows) and mysql (akonadi and amarok) are bad examples.

Why bad examples? Many peoples at home and office use samba to share files, on their desktops using kde or gnome. What will happen when the suspend or hibernate automatically?

lshal | grep system.formfac

Unless it's "desktop" or "laptop", there is nothing to fear. ("unknown" here)

nimrodel:/mnt/usb # lshal | grep system.formfac
system.formfactor = 'desktop' (string)

Ok, mine is a desktop, so I must be afraid. And it automatically autohibernates, ie, suspend to DISK, because of your new default setting.
