Don't hold your breath...   This is a direct quote from one of the KDE 
developers taken directly from their buglist regarding that very bug and to me 
is indicative of the whole attitude about providing the functionality we lose 
in 4.x in order to gain all the new wonderous vector graphics resizeable icons 
we all need instead of an ability to do useful work that we used to have.....

In one breath he says it isn't a lot of work to get the FUNCTIONALITY back 
again, and in the next, he says DON'T WAIT.   

Our esteemed moderator said IBM shot itself in it's d**k regarding OS/2.   That 
is probably true.   They did it when they teamed up with M$.   Now, it appears 
that KDE is shooting itself in the same appendage and expecting US to tell us 
where it hurts!
