Seems you use a different google ;-)

Searching for "kernel param vga= 1440x900", I found 
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=113901
which says you should try vga=0x365 or 357.
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_Lenovo_Thinkpad_T61 says vga=868 should 
work.

I don't know which one is correct - you'll have to find out yourself ;-)
