However, if one goes to Yast2 Control Centre and does the Online update, and/or do the scan the repositories for any new upgrades, there is no problem- the repositories are checked with no error messages.
The problem - I found out by accident last night - is that for the upgrade checker (bottom RH of taskbar) to stop coming up with the yellow triangle and to stop coming up with the error message(s) is to use the Remove/Add Repositories option in that icon and to ADD "/suse/" at the end of the URLs for the OSS and NON-OSS repositories.

I have never been able to get the update mechanism to work.sudo zypper ref ; sudo zypper dup
I have seen lots of threads on this topic though.
It's not that I am new to SUSE either.
I don't think it make sense to go into much detail since we are
about to move to RC1. So I will ask, will I see the update
zypper manager work properly with RC1 ?
that does not work for you? are you sure the factory source is enabled ?
Hub
late in the game I would wait for RC1.
However, why should anyone have to revert to the command line to get a
mechanism as important as this one to work.
I saw that in the exchanges several days ago.
sudo zypper ref (always works and show 4 or so repositories as ok)
I tried sudo zypper dup and one time I got several hours of
downloads coming my way with one error message that I told it to skip.
However, the icon on the bottom right is always in error mode.
KDE or GNOME? What do you mean by 'error mode' ?
