As i stated in my first post, the join DID work it is just that the kdm 
theme that is installed by default does not show a "domain" field after 
joining the domain and restarting the system.

I believe you might be right, this might be a yast bug as i have noticed 
something else that does not work in windows domain membership in yast. 
And that is "offline authentication". when i put a check mark in offline 
authentication in yast and then "finish". I then start yast again and go 
back into windows domian membership and offline authentication is not 
checked (it does not show a check mark).
