"X" is the disk number starting from zero, not the partition number. "Y" is the partition number starting from zero.

2008/3/31, Kevin Dupuy <kevindupuy@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>:
Updating my 11.0 Alpha 3 system to Factory on Wednesday, March 26th
rendered the system unbootable.
Now, when booting into Factory, I get the error message:
root (/dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_ST9402112A_5PJ1X5AL-part5)
Error 23: Error while parsing number
Press any key to continue
Pressing the key brings me back to GRUB.
Any ideas?
you'll have to change the
root (/dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_ST9402112A_5PJ1X5AL-part5)
to
root (hdX,Y) where:
X is the number of partition, starting from 0 and Y is the partition,
also starting from 0
"X" is the disk number starting from zero, not the partition number. "Y" is the partition number starting from zero.
