Both *might* be stripped out of the necessary video codec by legal. Swfdec relies on Gstreamer for video decoding.

It depends how swfdec is compiled. By default, it uses gstreamer instead of directly using ffmpeg. You still need the relevant gstreamer plugins, but at least you can easily install them.
