Is there any chance that rsyslog ( http://www.rsyslog.com/ ) can become the default syslogd for the upcoming opensuse 11 release?
From the webpage ...
Rsyslog is an enhanced multi-threaded syslogd supporting, among others, MySQL, syslog/tcp, RFC 3195, permitted sender lists, filtering on any message part, and fine grain output format control. ...
Fedora is using it as their default syslogd since Fedora 8 ( http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/8/ReleaseSummary#head-1c5f11068fc8fd0... )
Darix already has packages in his home directory on the OBS. ( http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/darix/openSUSE_Factory/ )
i think the question is wrong. replacing syslog-ng is not needed. but we could discuss whether to replace the original sysklogd with rsyslog.
Hmm yeah that's more what i meant. Replacing the entire syslog-ng would cause to much (unneeded) issues. But like darix suggests it would be nice to have a choice between either syslog-ng or rsyslog. Having a choice between equal alternatives is always good imo Leo --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
