Very much so, yes. Alpine offers some additional settings and
functionality and has some change under the hood wrt. UTF-8 support
which are mostly improvements but may be noticable in corner cases,
but it is really just evolutionary.
I have been following Alpine for more than a year, from the very
early snapshots, and regularily used both Pine and Alpine on the
same machine with the same config file even and that works just
fine.
