There is a work-around that I described then:
Wait for KDE to be fully started
Right click on desktop, select "Configure Desktop" -> "Behaviour"
clear tick-box "Show icons on desktop"
Click "Apply"
Wait for KDE to action this
Set tick-box "Show icons on desktop"
Click "Apply" or "OK"
Should be back to normal.

I have tried KDE flavour.
After KDE starts an error message appears:
"Could not start process Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: ."
