Goodday,
I write to the factory list cause this are factory matters, and I do not have the knowledge to know if this are bugs (I guess not) and I really like some shining light in this case.
I've got the latest stuff from Factory and of course, I gonna try ZEN/zypp/YaST. Therefore I add Factory again with 'yast2 inst_source'. There is a HUGE improvement with a progress-bar that is on this moment for each task a 0-100 bar. I hope it will change to 1 total 0-100 bar and text-refreshment about what is going on. But that is just a wish.
Feel free to file an enhancement request with a description how it should behave. This is the first rough implementation.
Will file one.
Seeing what YaST is doing, I was confused. It starts with downloading many .pat-files. For each platform! Not only i386/i586 but also x64 and pcc. I will never use those things I guess on an i586-system so why are the downloaded? I guess there is a good reason for cause the ZEN/YaST-stuff has been many times under the microscope. But could somebody explain it to me?
ZYPP is creating a full cache of all metadata available to be able working without the network connection afterwards.
For the case that you change processortype but don't have a connection to update the meta-info? Or do I not understand you correct?
Optimizing this behavior might be a good idea.
In the same category: Downloading all description translations. (or at least DU, CZ an EN). I guess YaST can recognize that I use Dutch and English packages only and it won't show me any German info so why is it downloaded? Otherwise, would be a very nice option :P
Because you might change the language of the system. Thus, the translations are downloaded into the cache. Would it be better if the system uses just english if you changed the language and there is no possibility to get the translations? Or ask for CD to get the right file?
Yes, that is better. Ask for the CD, make an option to ignore and use English and as soon there is an connection and YaST/ZEN is strated it can download the translation. It's a waste of time to do that for each language every time.
In another category: I thought that Yast inst_sources would only need 1 screen since that seems the policy (that I like). The new progressbar however, is a new screen.
What do you mean by 'a new screen' and 'the policy'?
The new Yast inst_source uses only one window for adding sources. Using the options (radio's) and next-button. Before 10.2 it was done by a pop-up. See the difference with 10.1. But the only thing that uses an new window is the progress-bar. I think that should be displayed in the same window. consludion: new screen = new pop-up window policy = use only one window for adding a source
