I can confirm this, even for CD-ROMs. The message is
hal-storage-removable-mount refused uid 1000
Also, the kernel from Alpha3 or Factory does not work on my machine. It
loads, starts initializing stuff, then the screen goes blank and the computer
is in deep freeze. I'm using the kernel from Alpha2, and the rest of the
distro is up to date Factory.
I'll file a bug.
