If not, the lists will run into the desert because too much answers go wrong, or they will run into starvation because people start unsubscribing because they feel penetrated by double answers (list and private).
wether or not you like the new setup you may be aware that it's the very same setup of the suse-e mailing lits, one of the heaviest traffic suse one, so no, people wont go away (not for this reason, at least)

The same as "one old list" that was set and software configured in times without privacy concerns doesn't mean it is good. Now they are trying to patch holes with a Spam Assassin, but what this can cover is just a part of the problem. I agree with Felix Miata's opinion and can't accept argument that previous configuration is not in compliance with some RFC. That standard, if it is written the way advocates have explained, is not near to cover the philosophy of mail list, so any argument that calls for compliance is either blindness for the facts, or hidden protection of some other interest (email address harvesting, spam). I'm subscribed to the list at opensuse.org and I want to communicate to the list, not to private mailboxes of every user I reply to. Can you see any logic in this: To:jdd <jdd@dodin.org> Cc:opensuse-factory@opensuse.org The list as CC? Why? For me the list at opensuse.org is the sender, but the header sent by list server doesn't tell that to my email client. My only interest is to reply to the list. There is no need for any private email address to appear in any field. If I want private discussion I can leave my email address in message body or signature. Repeating over and over again private emails is just honeypot for spammers. Before all this I didn't payed attention to the fact that private email is included in every header viewable for any subscriber of the list, but now I do, and I do understand now some increase in spam emails. The only way around this problem is to reduce communication until this is corrected. For me the list is concentrator where we can discuss openSUSE. I don't need additional overhead to fight the spam. Apropos client software: The Thunderbird has fine privacy features and the only problem is that it is not customizable for the lists that handle headers in different ways, which, trough this discussion, I can see as a list problem, not client. -- Regards, Rajko.
