Whatever the reason, it SUCKS. (And it's not nice without a progress
indicator.) This is half a show stopper. I doubt any of my $RELATIVES on
dialup are going to download >10MB every few days just to find out that
a package they haven't installed was updated.

Good scheme. An upwards-compatible way should be possible.

This thread is about what's annoying about the package management. .exe
processes are. The .exe extension is specific to the mswindows platform
(can one say of legendary notoriety?).

?? Are there more Linux applications than mono which produce this .exe
cr*p? If the executable is unspecific, why was an extension used at all?
