You are wrong. Upgrading today to factory leaves the system as:
turion:1 01:56:53 ~ # cat /etc/SuSE-release SUSE LINUX 10.0.42 (X86-64) Beta8
We always do this change once we've done a Beta. It just says: The next beta is called beta8. This is not the final Beta8, we're still fixing a couple of issues and might add more than 50 fixed packages today and tomorrow to the stream...
