Nada, he seguido las indicaciones y no funca. Tenía:

Section "Device"
  BoardName    "Radeon 9100 PRO IGP 7834"
  Driver       "vesa"
  Identifier   "Device[0]"
  VendorName   "ATI"
EndSection

Section "DRI"
   Group      "video"
   Mode       0660
EndSection

y puse:

Section "Device"
  BoardName    "Radeon 9100 PRO IGP 7834"
  Driver       "radeon"
  Identifier   "Device[0]"
  VendorName   "ATI"
EndSection

Section "DRI"
   Group      "video"
   Mode       0660
EndSection

y el monitor se queda sin señal al iniciar. Mala pinta!

Además, en la BIOS tengo unas opciones de configuración del chipset en
este modo:

DRAM CAS Select             [Slow]
AGP Aperture Size             [128]
UMA Frame Buffer Size      [64]

que he cambiado a este otro:

DRAM CAS Select             [Slow]
AGP Aperture Size             [Auto]
UMA Frame Buffer Size      [Auto]

pero tampoco.
