Para descartar el cable habría que cambiarlo por otro nuevo y repetir la misma acción (graba la iso).

O también podría ser el propio puerto ide la placa, que estuviera "tocado" y te estuviera dando problemas.

No sería raro, a mi me pasó en mi antiguo pentium iii. Tuve que conectar el disco ide a través de una caja (a un puerto usb) para alargar la vida del equipo. El disco duro ide me daba errores de acceso y escritura aleatorios. Cambié la faja ide y los problemas seguían. Pensé que el disco estaba mal, pero no, lo metí en la caja usb y se acabaron los problemas.

¿Grabar una iso desde windows también te falla? Pues si tienes la oportunidad, cambia ese cable por uno nuevo.

El otro error sí creo que pueda tener relación. Es el del puerto ata al que parece que le cuesta conectar, pero buscando en Google por el mensaje "16 bytes trailing data" he encontrado un bug de Ubuntu similar a tu problema:

Yo probaría, lo primero, a cambiar el cable de la unidad de dvd.

bueno eso ya esta comprobado y parece que el cable no es, alguien sabe como comprobar los puertos IDE, la verdad me preocupa por que ahí tengo un disco de 80gb donde hago la copia de seguridad con rsync y quizas no la este haciendo bien ó a lo mejor el fallo solo afecte a las regrabadoras.
