Pues eso es lo que hacen, muestrean a 48000, y convierten al valor de muestreo que tu quieras (dentro de los soportados). No viste el link?: http://emu10k1.sourceforge.net/as10k1-manual/emu_over.html
Lo estoy viendo ahora, y lo único que veo son las especificaciones de un procesador (un DSP): así a bote pronto no me aclara nada. No explica porqué el A/D tiene que ir sólo a 48K. De hecho, no tiene conversor A/D.
