Bien, ejecuta "lscpi -v" para ver si el módem aparece por algún lugar. De todas formas, el "arma" definitiva para verificar la detección del módem es "minicom" un terminal que te permite comunicarte directamente con el módem, no sirve para conectar a Internet, pero es muy útil, te recomiendo que instales el paquete (no ocupa mucho) porque si tienes un módem te vendrá bien tenerlo a mano.

Alguna idea de lo que puedo hacer para saber si lo puedo configurar como fax Mi sistema es Linux suse 10.1, 1Gb Ram ddr, Amd Athlon 64 a 3000+ 1800
Lo primero es detectar el módem (con minicom o similares) para ver qué puerto (ttySx) le ha asignado SuSE (te recomiendo este documento*, antiguo pero muy útil). Dinos qué te devuelve las pruebas con minicom, para ver si al menos lo detecta y puede marcar un número de teléfono.
Una vez que te haya detectado el módem queda configurar el fax. Aquí tengo mis dudas, creo que hay un módulo de Fax en Yast, pero no sé si te permite sólo enviar faxes o también recibirlos :-?.
