Hello,
This artwork is amazing!
I love the chalkboard. Does it make the logo to large? I think the logo needs 
to translate well to different sizes and text doesn't do that well.
The changes in the body of the Gecko are too much of a departure from the 
"branded" openSUSE gecko.
We should not distance ourselves in any way from the logo's used by the host 
product. 
Adding the Mortar board to the character is a universal symbol of education,

This one in green would be cool!
Adding some form of "action" is a nice idea, I was thinking about the classic 
view of receiving a diploma at the podium.
