First off ...
Maybe it could be distilled into a a simpler logo, but used in its own right 
as well, as said elsewhere, a bit too fussy.

Looks good though...

Gecko? I always thought it was  a chameleon! ?
Magnifying glass - metaphor for examining things closely? Would a microscope 
be better, takes away the idea of bad eyesight?
Candle; alludes to flames of wisdom? Also working long hours? But may be 
lost on people.
I like the blackboard
