This is done automatically by the rpms, just install italc,
italc-client and italc-master on the server and italc-client on the
clients everything should work out of box.

Yep - really works out of the box.

And it did not - joy

When you run it first time - it complains, and tells you to generate the
keys.

You generate the keys and it still complains - it claims it can't read
the
file and dies.

What version of italc are you using?

Try the one from Education:/Desktop repository:

http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Education:/desktop/openSUSE_11.0/repodata/repoview/italc-0-1.0.9-4.1.html

Done.
