If it is one thing I have observed while being on this list, it is the
neverending enthusiasm and stubbourness to continue to learn that amazes
me, and that, I am glad to be a part of. As far as your tar/rpm issues go,
heh, that is certainly *one* way, but by no means *the* way. :)

When you untar/unrpm files, the permissions are taken from the files
themselves, which is why sometimes you might notice files with
owner/group of 1003/1003, because you mightn't have the mappings on your
system for them.

If you want something served by apache, set the directory to 755, and the
files below it to 644. So to do that, you can do:

cd /dir && chmod -R 644 *
