Exactly, Mark. Debian has offered me everything I would like to think a package manager should. Mind you, I would always advocate 'aptitude' over apt-get.
only upgrades as much as you're comfortable with, and to try to ensure that it keeps good records. apt-listchanges was useful for that, but things have moved on.
Again, see 'aptitude'.
