Practically speaking CSMA/CD has a maximum capacity of about 40% of quoted bandwidth. Beyond this the resends start to fill up the network. So a 100Mbit network carries 40Mb or 5MB / second. This, of course, does not apply to switched connections which are not limited by collisions - so should in theory be able to give 12.5MB / second in each direction - if your bus will handle it! ===== rgds, Richard Rothwell -------------------------------------------------------------------- GNU and Wine are rirds. Rird is recursively defined. ________________________________________________________________________ Want to chat instantly with your online friends? Get the FREE Yahoo!
