Thats the rpm i installed in the firest place. I also tried installing java from the suse disk with yast. But still OOo wont pick up thats its installed. Is there a script that i have to restart or something like?
Sorry I just thought I should have mentioned the JRE is about 22MB!
I've also found linux install instructions for the self extracting binary and rpm versions (again on the sun site). It refers to the Software development kit rather than simply the runtime environment but it should help make things easier if you hit problems.

also for completeness this is the link to the Java 2 standard edition 1.4.1 where you can choose other downloads apart from the one I linked directly to last post http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/download.html

From the OOo website (http://whiteboard.openoffice.org/doc/user_faq/various_topics/ 015.html)
it says you need java VM for the help system to function.
You could try the Java Runtime Environment from the sun site?
http://java.sun.com/webapps/download/Display?BundleId=8222&Ref erer=http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/download.html
follow the link (watch out for wrapping in the URL) and accept the user agreement at the bottom of the page.
see how you do from that (good luck!)

i need to make sure that all parts of OOo are working ing im going to impress the very skeptical staff where i work. They havent had any it support for all the time they've had rm (which is now on its knees begging for mercy) and now were putting in nymph thin client. I just want to make sure they get the full use out of the software so they dont start buying M$ licenses again. How do i get a VM that OOo does support?

Yes.
when i try and install OOo?
OOo probably doesn't support all VMs. I'm not sure I'd worry about it too much, I don't think OOo uses Java for anything useful.
