Hi all:
I am currently running a Cisco Academy at my school and using hyper terminal to connect to the routers to program them. I have now attached one of the routers to a Linux box but have no idea of what and how I can replicate the Hyper terminal software. Any help much appreciated.
Paul Hi Paul,
You'll probably find that minicom (for console) or seyon (for X) will fill the bill. That's assuming you were using a standard serial connexion, which using Hyperterminal I guess you were. You may find, though, that you can telnet onto the Cisco boxes.
In order to telnet into a Cisco router it needs to have an IP address and have telnet enabled. Presumably this "Cisco Academy" involves setting up the router from scratch. Unless they default to having telnet enabled and running a DCHP client you need to use the serial cable. IIRC there are some things you can only do through the serial console anyway. -- Mark Evans St. Peter's CofE High School Phone: +44 1392 204764 X109 Fax: +44 1392 204763
