Rob...(if you could excuse the uninvited familiarity..) when you say you have installed Samba2.2.3a on suse7.3 are you saying that you installed it from some source other than the suse7.3 CDs that come with it? Is winbind actually on there too? Or does samba2.2.3a with winbind come as a pair from some site - like the samba.org site? I'd be really interested in the steps you had to take to get this working - especially any .conf .rc or other files had to be manually tweaked. I had been afraid to simply install an rpm ontop of my suse installation in case it messed up - and my 7.3 version works like a dream at the moment! I assume you do need to change something to make samba use the PAM module - or perhaps its just a question of changing the config of the PAM module. You will detect from my questions that my ignorance knows no bounds.
