I am looking at changing a school network to use a Linux server. I have a network with Win95 clients already and a WinNT4 server. I also have 4 QMS Magicolor II printers currently setup on the server and then shared to the network. If I got a linux server running and setup CUPS and Samba - would it matter that linux doesn't have a driver for the Magicolor IIs, or can the win95 clients just use their drivers 'through' the linux box?
It won't matter; the processing will take place on the Win95 boxes and they will treat Samba as a raw print queue.
As a point of interest, we have one of these printers and we had some problems with ink not fusing properly to the paper. Turns out that if the paper isn't absolutely damp free this can be a problem so leave it in its sealed paper packet for as long as possible before putting it in th printer and store it away from anywhere that can produce damp or condensation. -- IanL
