With that sort of spec you have quite a good choice. If you want to run X but keep it simple I recommend icewm, it is small and fast and very easy to set up to be easy for Win95 users. Also I would use mozilla rather than netscape; ver 0.9.5 is quite stable now. You could look at opera too. What sort of data will you be logging - what sensors do you need? ____________________________________ Giles Nunn - Network Manager Carms Schools ICT Development Centre Tel: +44 01239 710662 Fax: 710985 ____________________________________ On Wed, 24 Oct 2001, Glenn Cameron wrote:

They are Pentium 166 with 64Mb RAM. The server is a P133 with 96Mb of RAM so isn't terribly powerful. I guess the server based install will be best bet, stick a DVD drive in there and should be able to do everything.

That sounds interesting, I'll have to give that a whirl.
Okay, so I think my first step should be to install Linux on the old server, then try and set up a workstation I guess (to create an image). Any suggestions on data logging software? Browsing should be fulfilled by Netscape - can't see the teachers and kids going for lynx so some kind of desktop probably needed, any recommendations on that front for an easy life?
