on RH7.1, the chose of display manager (xdm ,gdm etc) is governed by the /etc/X11/prefdm script, as pointed to by the last line of your /etc/inittab. # Run xdm in runlevel 5 # xdm is now a separate service x:5:respawn:/etc/X11/prefdm -nodaemon /etc/X11/prefdm looks at the /etc/sysconfig/desktop file, to find the default desktop, mine has DESKTOP="gnome" You'll either need to either hack prefdm to allow for "icewm", or start xdm directly from the inittab last line X:5:respawn:/usr/X11R6/bin/xdm not sure where the default settings are for desktop types (late and i should know) have a look in Public Linux Web Station (or similar name) HOWTO on www.linuxdoc.org, lots of info on setting up locked down, and preconfigured client machines. My own interest is getting system to boot directly into a full screen browser (ie Galeon) to become a kiosk, that is resillient and can recover the last session info Malcolm On Tuesday 14 August 2001 19:46, Paul Sutton wrote:
Hi
following recent discussion of icewm, I decided to install on my AMD 500 with 128mb memory, I am currently using rhl 7,1 with the 2.4.2 kernel (i think) optimised for the k6 processor, anyway after installing and typing the
starting icewm script (.Xclients) which comes with the online documents, and set this to 755. I can't seem to start by default, at present I can goto failsafe which is a xscreen with an xterm from here I can type icewm.
The only problem here is that if I then close the xterm down it kills icewm at the same time, (I know why this is),
Can someone please point me in the direction of the file to edit in order to set icewm to default for a normal user, with the login it remembers the last window manager used by a particular user, (for root it can stay as kde),
thanks
