Hi Alan Yours message is pretty much the same as the one I failed to post to the correct place .before shutting down the system yesterday. Here at School we run Linux servers with about 85 win 95 clients so in a way we have the best of both worlds To move things along I am about to implement Star Office although the WIndows version to give people the idea that there are alternatives. Its an uphill struggle with many staff suggesting that the IT department should purchase in a "proper" system from a real educational supplier. Think what sort of ammunition a move to Linux on the desktop or a thin client system would give this lobby. Whilst yes the idea to move to LInux compleatly is nice its not going to happen in most places. The perception is that if its not supplied by a well known supplier ( no names but you know who I mean) runs windows in some form it can only be seen as a "cheapskate system" that shouldn't be publicised. So whilst Cost is a compelling reason to move to Linux I suspect that you need other ones to convince management. John Wilson Computer Officer ( fancy title for IT technician)
