Has anyone installed KDE2? Well - obviously, yes - but anyone here wish to comment on any problems?
Compiled KDE 1.92 and 2.0 from source and it worked fine. This is with SuSE 6.4. Tried the KDE CDs from Linux Emporium and it fell over straight away. The KDE2 from the SuSE site are good as well. Should work fine. But it's a huge download. I was discussing KDE2 with one of the JANET programmers on Saturday when I was in Manchester. He agrees with me that it shouldn't be allowed to take over the entire desktop. Both of us like KDE2 but we only want to use Kmail or Konqueror. So, the DCOP server needs to be re-written so that it works in the way that it should. I like to use Windowmaker on my desktop with some KDE and Gnome components. Such as Gedit or Kedit for writing web pages. So, I can't use KDE2 at all. Which is a shame because it's very good apart from the DCOP server. Thanks -- Richard http://www.sheflug.co.uk
