Hello Mark, you wrote on 07/11/00 10:05:49:
Does the current version of samba include the capability to act as a NT Primary domain controller. i.e. validating usernames and passwords etc.
If so has anybody implemented Linux/samba successfully as a NT PDC replacement? Also if possible, which version of Samba/Linux supports these feature. We have been experimenting with SUSE 6.4
Yes, Samba can act as a PDC. We have Samba 2.0.6, Linux 2.2.14, and use Linux as PDC for a Windows 98 network. Samba is a robust and well constructed bit of code and with the SWAT (or Webmin) GUI is pretty easy to maintain. A good introduction is the O'Reilly book 'Using Samba', which is available on line, the bit about domain control is at: http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/samba/chapter/book/ch06_05.html There is also a comprehensive FAQ on PDC support at: http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/ntdom_faq/samba_ntdom_faq.html However, AFAIK Samba (as such) does not support logon from Win2K clients.
