Hi Richard + All, The problem I had was installing SuSE 6.4 on an IBM Thinkpad model 755 DX4/100, mainly because you have to take out the floppy drive in order to use the CD ROM drive. Aside from that I've achieved my aim and SuSE 6.4 is running. The laptop uses a PCMCIA network card (Dlink DE-660 JITI). To get that running that I installed the card manager during setup and then ran "ifconfig eth0" to check it's precense. As far as I can remember nothing actually happened until I assigned a system and domain name using linuxconf / yast after which time it worked perfectly. I don't remember having to share and IRQ address with anything but I didn't write down everything that I did either! IBM laptops / desktops do seem to lend themselves to SuSE though which may be why I've had so little problem installing it. Hope this is some help Alan Harris Richard wrote:
Dear All
Some weeks ago a gent from Wales was helped out on this list. His notebook was having some issues.
Anyone know how to sort out an IRQ conflict on a notebook with SuSE 6.4 installed ? The PCMCIA cards are not working because of an IRQ conflict. Only info I've got is from Sterling Management. They say that I have to share the PCMCIA cards on IRQ 7 with the printer.
To my way of thinking this suggests that they don't really understand that I'm running Linux when I've explained it to them several times.
Thanks
