Certainly with a straight install, you can have KDE2 and XFree 4 and sax2, and you can choose KDE 1.1 / KDE 2 and XFree 3.3.6 / XFree 4. The beta version of KDE 2 is very usable, but to my mind the default look and feel is a bit ugly still. (When it goes into `production' there will be a much nicer default SuSE theme available.) (BTW - be careful if you run sax2 from the command line - you may need to set the keyboard setting manually in `expert mode', or it might wrongly detect the keyboard type...) Also, with a straight install, there is the chance to install KDE2 stuff and SAX2 but not it seems with an update? Admittedly I was over anxious in waiting for my full version and used the one from Linux Format but it only instaled the base files so should not have affected anything else?
