I'm afraid I'm unfamiliar with the commercial software that's been
mentioned in this thread but for a possible open source solution you
might want to have a look at:
http://www.wdbi.net/
which queries a relational DB via a web interface. It might meet
some of your needs but if nothing else give you some ideas to work
on. I did set it up once as a front-end to MySQL and it worked well
and it wasn't too much effort to set up.
